The Midsummer Night Magic of Shakespeare

The magical romantic comedy A Midsummer Night’s Dream, under the direction of Kate Kennedy, will be presented by Sonoma’s own Avalon Players at Gundlach Bundschu Winery in their 28th season. The magic  ensues as it portrays the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a rustic group of amateur actors, their interactions with the  Duke and Duchess of Athens, the feuding fairy King and Queen, Theseus and Hippolyta, and their fairy subjects who inhabit a moonlit forest.

Returning to the stage this year is the ever-entertaining Bob Smith, a proprietor of our famous Murphy’s Irish Pub, in the  hilarious role of Bottom. Kathryn Del Chiaro, a local favorite,  will bring her own unique smile and voice to the fairy Queen, Titania. And young Ben Marcus-Willers stirs up playful trouble as the mischievous Puck. A bevy of adorable fairies will enchant the  youngsters of all ages.

A casual picnic atmosphere prevails outside under the stars at Gundlach Bundschu’s Amphitheatre at 2000 Denmark Street, Sonoma. Warm jackets are suggested for the cool Sonoma summer nights and   wine is available for purchase before the play. All performances start at 7:00PM, August 15 and 16, 22 and 23, 29 and 30 and Sunday, August 31. Tickets are $20 per person and $10 for children under 12   and may be purchased through Gundlach Bundschu’s website (gunbun.com), at Readers Books in Sonoma and at the gate. The best
